Trump Taps Lee Zeldin for EPA Administrator
Statement of EDF Executive Director Amanda Leland
"The U.S. needs an EPA administrator who will protect public health, cut climate pollution and keep America competitive in the global clean energy race.
"Former U.S. Representative Lee Zeldin should demonstrate during the confirmation process that he will work to reduce the pollution that's harming our children's health, fueling extreme weather and raising insurance costs. He also should commit to ensuring America continues to be a leader in the clean energy transition and the good-paying jobs it creates – or risk the U.S. falling behind other nations, as it did during Donald Trump’s first term. And Mr. Zeldin should allow EPA staff to do their jobs without fear, threats or intimidation so they can help deliver a healthier, safer future for every American.
"Given the record of President-elect Trump’s EPA during his first administration, and his allies’ proposals to undo climate progress and health protections, we will be watching Mr. Zeldin’s confirmation process closely."
