Executive Orders Undo Generational Progress, Threaten Rights of Millions
Statement of EDF's Dr. Margot Brown
(Washington, D.C. – January 22, 2025) In his first three days in office, President Trump issued executive orders eliminating federal environmental justice programs and directed his administration to place employees who work on diversity, equity, and inclusion on leave.
“The new administration has moved to undo hard-earned generational progress like Justice40 that was created to ensure every American has an opportunity to be healthy and thrive. These actions threaten the rights of tens of millions of Americans to breathe clean air, drink clean water and use products free of toxic chemicals, particularly those people whose zip code or race add undue burdens.
“We must stay focused. Leaders change, but our work remains the same. Environmental Defense Fund will continually invest and improve in our own essential efforts to make sure every worker, every family and every community is seen and heard. And we will do everything we can to uphold the progress made with our partners and allies and to uplift the people on the frontlines fighting for equity every day.”
